Meet Nige, our inspiring lived experience speaker, whose journey is a testament to resilience and hope. Born in Sri Lanka and of Tamil heritage, Nige faced immense challenges early in life, fleeing his country with his family to escape conflict. Nige was in detention for 6 years. ​When Nige was released from detention he met Derek from Now & Not Yet, who were pivotal in assisting him to secure housing, employment and a sense of community. The rest of Nige's family were sent back to Sri Lanka, Nige works tirelessly to set up a life for, hoping they will be reunited.

Now & Not Yet are a social enterprise not-for-profit community cafe located in Warrandyte. Through the profits raised at their cafe they support people seeking asylum, facing homelessness and others doing it tough.
